Gary Karz, CFA Gary Karz is the founder and principal of Proficient Investment Management, LLC. Gary has more than two decades of experience in the investment business and has worked directly with many of the most prominent firms in the industry. His professional experience began with a regional brokerage firm in 1987 after he passed the NASD Series 7 & 63 as a Junior in business school at the University of Southern California. His other experiences include working for a prolific commercial real estate development firm, a boutique investment firm headed by former Goldman Sachs Partner Lewis J. Kaufman, and over a decade at Plexus Group (and JP Morgan Chase & Investment Technology Group via mergers). As an independent and unbiased advisor, he worked directly with Boards, CIOs, Portfolio Managers, Compliance Officers, and Traders at some of the largest and most successful money managers in the world. In 1996 he launched (and continues to host) InvestorHome.com which was described by Nobel laureate William Sharpe as "a treasure trove of information." He has been cited or published in numerous peer reviewed journals (Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Finance, Journal of Portfolio Management, and Journal of Trading). InvestorHome has also been cited in Forbes, Barron’s, Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine, Morningstar.com, TheStreet.com, and on CNBC. InvestorHome has also been cited in best selling and critically acclaimed books including Eric Tyson's Investing For Dummies, William Bernstein's The Intelligent Asset Allocator, and Jason Zweig's "revised" edition of The Intelligent Investor. Lewis J. Kaufman Mr. Kaufman serves as a Senior Advisor to Proficient on corporate strategy matters. Mr. Kaufman's over 50 year career in the investment business is highlighted by a seventeen year association with Goldman Sachs, the last six as a General Partner. During his Goldman Sachs career, Mr. Kaufman was selected to establish Goldman Sachs first expansionary initiative in many years - the 1961 establishment of a West Coast office in Los Angeles. Mr. Kaufman voluntarily resigned from Goldman Sachs to assume a position with the Adminstration in Washington D.C. in 1971. Following his Washington experience, Mr. Kaufman returned to Los Angeles and established an investment banking boutique focused on providing corporate advisory services, primarily to healthcare-related businesses, as well as investment advisory services to a limited number of high new worth individuals.
